Check this out! Top plates (horizontal framing where roof meets top of exterior wall) are notoriously leaky spots in homes with vented attics. Air sneaks through the wall assembly causing undesirable drafts to permeate the living space, making homes less comfortable and more expensive to heat and cool. At our Retro Rambler project in Maryland, we exposed this vulnerable area during a remodel of the front porch. Matt cut 2-inch @sikausa Rmax rigid insulation blocks and sealed the edges with 1-part canned foam below sturdy baffles to maintain natural air flow to the attic, while significantly reducing crossover to the conditioned rooms below.
