The Retrofit Lab is offering a 90-minute virtual training with tips and tricks for converting homes to all-electric, energy-efficient heat pump HVAC and hot water systems. Builders Matt Kulp and Nicole Tysvaer of Symbi Homes will lead the session, providing practical insight into the retrofit process, including:
- Conducting baseline pre-retrofit energy audits and interpreting results
- Planning electric rough-ins and panel upgrades
- Evaluating space requirements for equipment and ductwork
- Improving air sealing and insulation performance
- Reviewing mechanical design documents (Manual J, D, and S)
- Proper commissioning of HVAC equipment
- Identifying qualified contractors to perform retrofit work
Multiple real-world case studies will be shared to highlight the complexities of transitioning homes to advanced heat pump technologies and best practices for implementation.
